About

I first dreamt of becoming a florist nearly 20 years ago whilst living in Paris. Every day, on my way to work, I would walk past a beautiful flower shop and wish I could be in there immersed in that heady scent, creating beautiful bouquets rather than sitting in an office.

That dream took a while to materialise but I made it come true!

After living and working in Barcelona for three years (just love that city) and travelling to some insanely beautiful places, I found myself back in an office in England and still yearning to work with flowers. My husband encouraged me to finally take the plunge and retrain as a florist at McQueens Flower School in London. The best career choice I ever made.

I worked in a gorgeous little flower shop on the edge of the New Forest and I quickly found my passion lay in creating wedding and event flowers. I loved it there and although, as any florist will tell you, it’s not all glamour, it’s a rewarding, fun and creative job.

While I was pregnant with my first daughter, my husband and I moved back to the South Hams where we are both from to set up home by the sea. A little while later I started Caroline Hodges Flowers with a workshop in the village where I grew up and where my parents still live. This has proven to be very handy because I increasingly employ the boatbuilding skills of my talented father to create wooden frames for arches, giant floral chandeliers and other bespoke creations.

Six years on I can honestly say I love every part of my job (with the exception of the dreaded tax return but that doesn’t count, right?). From receiving initial emails from excited, newly engaged brides-to-be to personally delivering that all important bouquet on the morning, it’s a privilege to be part of that special process.

One of my favourite parts is getting to know my clients (preferably over a cuppa) so I can really visualise exactly how they’d like their big day or event to look and feel. I believe wedding flowers, especially, should reflect each individual couple’s style and personalities.

My wedding day was my best day ever and I totally understand how important every last detail is. I was a perfectionist for my own wedding and I’m a perfectionist in every wedding and event I’m a part of.
